在这个互动的讲座里，我探讨批判性艺术实践的可能性作为一个能细致了解“城市性”的方法。通过这个讨论，我要探索的问题是：
‧ 批判性艺术实践可以产生关于城市空间的新的社会类别吗？
‧ 在地的对社区及其历史的理解能带来新的语境化的批判性吗？
‧ 这样的对被实践的城市的探索能形成一个“活”的文献库吗？
这些问题之所以被提出，是因为在社会科学里，特别是城市规划和研究里面，有一种乐观主义，联系著规划、政策、专家裁决，或者说，被占支配地位的元叙事所拘禁的在地方的滞阻──这些所有的因素关闭了空间。这也召唤著的新的方法来卷入/参与到城市里面，跨越那些严重地拘束著概念类别的领域，也许也会跨越那些地带，在其中过度的自我反思性抑制了对更广阔的物质性的理解。
Inthis interactive talk, I explore the possibility for Critical Art Practice as way for a nuanced understanding of ‘cityness’. In doing so, thequestions I explore are:
·Can Critical Art Practice generate new SocialCategories about City Spaces?
·Can grounded understandings of how neighborhoodsand their histories bring new contextual criticalities?
·Can such an exploration of the Practiced Cityform a ‘live’ archive?
These questions are posed when in the social sciences, and particularlyin Urban Studies, there seems to be a positivism linked to promise of plans andpolicy, expert rule, or then, a located stagnation imprisoned by a hegemonicmeta narrative – that together close space. This also calls for new methods ofengaging with the city across disciplines that have seriously imprisoned conceptual categories, and also perhaps where excessive self-reflectivity restricts an understanding of wider materiality.

所罗门（索利）·本杰明，是印度马德拉斯理工学院的人文社科院的城市研究专家。他的「佔有城市主义」超越城市总体规划的逻辑去看待空间和领土性，让人们可以更细緻地去理解日常实践。他从麻省理工学院的城市研究与规划部获得博士学位，麻省理工的建筑部获得科学硕士。他现在的工作专注于印度和中国的那些充满大量小商贩的城市，小商人代表了小公司经济，而小公司经济是在中国很多城市和城镇裡的“中国巴扎（市集）”的源泉。他其他的研究兴趣包括南印度沿海区域的小镇的城市化，这与中国、东南亚、日本和韩国有古今关联。他也参与到具有批判性的艺术实践中：Raqs媒体小组（Raqs Media Collective）的德里的项目“城市作为工作室”、最近的亚洲艺术文献库的“15个邀请”项目。他的学术著作和大众化的写作用英语出版，并翻译成法语，加泰罗尼亚语和德语。
Solomon (Solly) Benjamin, an urbanist is with the faculty of the Humanities and Social Science Department of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras in India. Benjamin’s idea of ‘Occupancy Urbanism’ looks at space and territoriality beyond the logics of Master Plans, and allows for an nuanced understanding of everyday practices. He has a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Department of Urban Studies and Planning, and SM in Architectural Studies from MIT’s Department of Architecture. Solly’s current work focuses on the relationship between Indian and Chinese cities shaped by very large number of small traders representing small firm economies that source for ‘China Bazzars’ – located in most cities and towns. His other interest is on small town urbanization in coastal South India that has ancient and present day links to China, SE Asia, Japan and Korea. Solly is connected to groups engaged in critical art practice: the RAQs media collective in their Delhi based program: ‘City as Studio’, and more recently, invited to be part of their ’15 Invitations’ by the Hong Kong based Asian Art Archive. Solly’s academic and popular writing has been published in English, and translated into French, Catalan, and German.
